Israel Adesanya thinks Kamaru Usman is the best pound in MMA.
Usman is the current welterweight champion and undefeated in the UFC, including defending his title five times. He defeated most opponents fairly easily and hit well, which made him even more dangerous.
However, Adesanya says that Osman’s activity and success rate is what puts him first in the P4P discussions.
He’s the best fighting fighter right now,” Adesanya said on a recent episode of Mike Tyson’s podcast (via MiddleEasy). “He rolls the section. He does it in 170, I do it in 185. I’m going to put him in there. He’s probably the best active fighter right now. I’m going to give it to him.”
Kamaru Usman had three title defenses in 2021 which is a lot for the champions. However, he did suffer a hand injury but will likely return in the summer against Leon Edwards. If Usman wins, he could face Khamza Shemayev after the Boers beat Gilbert Burns last Saturday night at UFC 273.
After last weekend’s victory at UFC 273, Alexander Volkanovsky overtook Adesanya for second and inspired some fresh discussions about the Sterling ratings when he dominated Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” in the main event. The featherweight champion has yet to lose in the UFC.
Usman 15-0 in the UFC, including a win The ultimate fighter, which made him enter the promotion. The last time he fought was last November in a decision win over Colby Covington to take a 2-0 lead over his opponent. The win kept him as the #1 fighter in the UFC.
Ranked #3 P4P fighter Israel Adesanya last competed at UFC 271 in a unanimous victory over Robert Whitaker. Like his good friend Usman, this made Adesanya 2-0 over his toughest opponent.
