Elvis Presley fans have been expecting who will play their favorite singer in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic, but the wait is finally over. Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.
Who will play the role of Elvis Presley?
After a bit less conversation and more work, it has now been revealed that Austin Butler has been cast as Elvis in the new bio.
Austin defeated fellow contenders Harry Styles and Ansel Elgort in the role.
The 27-year-old has been chosen to play the singer, Warner Bros Pictures announced the news in a statement Monday night.
Director Baz said, “I knew I couldn’t make this movie if the acting wasn’t quite right, and we searched well for an actor who had the ability to evoke the unique natural movement and vocal qualities of this unique star, but also the inner weakness of the artist.”
“Throughout the casting process, it has been an honor to meet such a wide range of talent.
“I heard about Austin Butler from his standout role opposite Denzel Washington in Snowman comes On Broadway, through an extensive journey of on-screen auditions and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most recognizable musical personalities.”
Nickelodeon star and Disney Channel star Austin also appeared as Charles Watson of The Manson Family in Quentin Tarantino’s Once upon a time in Hollywood.
The actor posted the news on Instagram, quoting a line from Elvis’ hit song “Love Me Tender”: “You’ve completed my life, and I love you so much.”
Austin partner Vanessa Hudgens wrote on Instagram: “It’s over the moon *******. Can’t wait. So proud of my honey!”
Who will play Colonel Tom Parker?
Tom Hanks is set to play Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager, with the 62-year-old confirming filming plans.
“It will be sometime next year,” he said. BBC in 2019. “Make-up man, Danny Strebek, who did my make-up I guess, 17 movies—did Elvis done, among other things, long live vegas… And the Harum Sacrum And the kissing cousins. So he had made some really lousy Elvis movies.

Who will play Priscilla Presley?
Olivia Dejong, 21, has been cast as Priscilla Presley in the upcoming biopic and will work alongside Austin as Elvis.
“Olivia is able to bring out the depth and complex presence that made Priscilla Presley an icon in her own right,” Buzz said.
“She’s a very talented young actress and the perfect counterpoint to Austin Elvis.”

The first teaser for the movie was revealed in November 2021. It shows a short glimpse of Butler as Elvis, and you can watch it below:
The second full trailer was released in February 2022, and it gives fans a full glimpse of Austin Butler as King, and Tom Hanks as Parker.
The trailer features many of Elvis’ most famous shows and moments, from his debut singing ‘That All Right’ to ’68 Comeback Special’ to his famous Las Vegas pomp.
The film also sees Austin Butler sing as impressively as Elvis himself, rather than using tracks recorded by King. Watch it below:
When will the movie be released?
Cinema chiefs initially announced that filming would begin in early 2020, with a release date set for October 21, 2020. However, that date was canceled after government restrictions related to the coronavirus halted production.
Elvis It is now scheduled for release on June 24, 2022.
Filming was halted in March 2020 after Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for the coronavirus.
Production is now scheduled to resume in Queensland, Australia on September 23, 2020.

“We thank our partners in Queensland Government and Queensland Health for their very diligent process, so we can be an example of how creativity and productivity can proceed safely and responsibly in a way that protects our team and society as a whole.
“We are all excited to start working with Tom Hanks when he comes out of quarantine in a couple of weeks.”
Talking to Delivery time Back in April, Buzz revealed that the entire cast and crew Elvis The coronavirus was tested after production was halted.
He recalls: “A team in hazmat suits showed up and were tested. We wouldn’t be contagious right away – you have to see if you had symptoms – but poor Tom and Rita, they were in the hospital and we were locked up in quarantine.”
“They did a good job tracing by looking at the footage. Some guys were extra, but they tracked everyone down and quarantined everyone who had real contact with Tom.
“And it turns out we’ve never seen a single infection in the entire crew.”
