What a time to stay alive: J-Lo and Ben Affleck are engaged, Kim Kardashian is dating Pete Davidson and Britney Spears is pregnant!!
Taking to Instagram last night, Britney shared a lengthy update with her 40.5 million followers, discussing how she lost weight on her recent trip to Maui, Hawaii, to gain it back when she returns. Explaining that she was “pregnant with food,” she and husband Sam Asgari ignored the changes to her body, only to confirm four days later that it was, in fact, child pregnant.
But the post, which was accompanied by a photo of a teacup and flowers, taken by photographer Andrea MacLean, was more than a celebratory statement. Spears went on to discuss how she had suffered from perinatal depression during a previous pregnancy (she has two sons: Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15).
She also told fans that she would avoid public situations to avoid attention from the paparazzi, given how much she initially chased after her. “Obviously I won’t go out much because the points pick up their money for me, as if they already did…” she wrote.
Like any other kid in the ’90s who grew up listening to her music, I was elated by the news. She shared her post on social media and felt a real sense of joy for the former pop star. Having been under the strictures of her guardianship for more than a decade, and recently winning this hard-earned battle, the news of her baby cherry on top – further proof that things are on the way for our girl.
Now, of course, Britney’s pregnancy is not a political act. It’s not with a kid just to get one on anyone. But that doesn’t mean she’s any less satisfying for fans who’ve followed her journey over the years.
In a statement she read at a court hearing in June 2021, she spoke about how her guardianship prevented her from having children.
“I want to be able to marry and have a child,” she said. “I was told now in the guardianship that I could not marry and have a child.”
Spears added, “I have [IUD] Inside me now so I can’t get pregnant…but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to get it out because they don’t want me to have kids.
“So, basically, this guardianship is doing me more harm than good.”
At the time, Spears received an outpouring of support from fans around the world, who, quite rightly, advocated a system that controlled not only her money and property, but her reproductive rights. The women’s rights group, Refugee, added that if this is true, it is “reproductive coercion”.

Yes, the news that someone has a baby is always a cause for joy. It is a happy occasion and should be celebrated. But knowing how much she wants another child, and how hard it is to be fought off by her father Jimmy and his team, makes it all the sweeter. It’s another massive victory for Britney and a very personal one at that, a definitive “faux” for the people who sought to control her every choice.
Britney Spears deserves all the happiness in the world. She deserves to make her own decisions about her own body and future. She deserves to navigate her pregnancy on her own terms, without constant notes and attacks from the media.
Britney is a queen and we must protect her at all costs.
