Bruce Willis quits acting after being diagnosed with aphasia

Bill star Chris Ellison has been unable to speak for the past year and a half since he was diagnosed with the same brain disorder as Bruce Willis.

The 75-year-old TV star was diagnosed with aphasia – which causes sufferers to lose the ability to speak or communicate – after suffering a stroke in 2020.

Last Wednesday, close family members of 67-year-old action star Bruce revealed that he was forced to retire from his acting career after being diagnosed with his condition.

Bruce’s story encouraged Chris’ family to share their grief after the star — who played DCI Frank Burnside on The Bill and the spin-off Burnside, from 1984 until 2000 — fell ill.

Kris’s 69-year-old wife Anita told The Sun on Sunday: “It’s awful, we were so lonely. Kris is trapped in his body. He can understand everything that’s going on around him but he can’t speak, read or write.

He hasn’t said anything in 18 months. Sometimes I feel as though I’ve lost my very attractive, very funny, and caring husband.

“It’s frustrating for both of us but when he looks in my eyes I see he’s still there. I cried Buckets, he’s kind of mourning. But he’s still here with us, still very caring and loving.”

The Sun on Sunday details the dramatic hospital dash that Chris endured when he suffered a stroke at his Brighton home nearly two years ago.

His wife discovered him on his bedroom floor which immediately sounded the alarm – but paramedics couldn’t carry him down a narrow spiral staircase to take him to the hospital.

Instead, the actor was carefully flown through a skylight and then flown to the hospital in a helicopter as doctors struggled to save him after a stroke and a blood clot formed that they were unable to remove.

After being warned that he might not survive the night, Chris managed to pass and was later taught to walk and feed himself again while he recovered.

Anita says she is talking about Kris’s aphasia to help shed light on the condition and support others who may be suffering after the diagnosis.

She said: I want whoever comes to him to talk to him even if he can’t answer. I hope he breaks the silence.

“I also hope to say that he has aphasia will help all the people who have it to understand more.”

On Wednesday, Hollywood was devastated when it was revealed that Bruce Willis will no longer act as his health begins to deteriorate.

A statement shared by his 33-year-old daughter Rumer said: “To the amazing Bruce fans, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has some health issues and was recently diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities.

“As a result of this and with a great deal of consideration, Bruce is walking away from a profession that meant so much to him.

“This is a challenging time for our family and we deeply appreciate your continued love, sympathy and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and we wanted to attract his fans because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”
