One of Queen’s most trusted employees couldn’t be in a better position to pull off an April Fools’ Day prank—leaving the pair in stitches.

Angela Kelly has held the prestigious role of the Queen’s wardrobe since 2002 and has been with the Royal Family for over 25 years.

Angela has released a book called The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe which included one hilarious anecdote about the April Fools’ Day the Treasury pulled out in 2006, MyLondon reports.

She took her chance for some mischief as April Fools’ Day approached while on a royal tour of Australia.

Excited by the Queen to see the famous Kookaburra, Kelly bought a soft Kookaburra toy and placed a bird cage in it on the balcony outside the Governor’s House Royal Suite.

The Queen caught a glimpse of the strange bird and Kelly recalled that the Queen looked outside, shouting “It’s a Kookaburra!”

Angela said: “I went to open the cage and said loudly: No! Don’t do that! You will fly away!”

“I turned to Her Majesty while trying to keep her face straight, I solemnly told her that she was dead.

“She looked terrified when I walked toward her with my arms outstretched and when I took the bird by the hand, I realized I was winding it up.”

However, the Queen prepared her own response which apparently left the treasury in fits of laughter.

Kelly added, “April Fools!” I said with a sly smile, having only two words for me, “You’re fired!”

“I was laughing uncontrollably when Her Majesty the Queen turned to His Royal Highness and said ‘Do you know what you just did to me? Angela sympathized with me!'”
